About Radio MC

Radio MC is a new idea, but our story began decades ago.

On Easter Sunday 1989 the Mississippi College radio station, WHJT-FM, became the first local FM radio signal in Central Mississippi to play Contemporary Christian Music.  "Come Alive 93.5" introduced its audience to music that glorified God and encouraged listeners.  As the popularity of CCM exploded across the U.S., WHJT-FM became an industry-leading radio station reaching thousands of listeners every day.

By the early 21st century, national, listener-supported Christian music networks moved into towns across the U.S. and acquired local radio signals.  Local stations like WHJT-FM became increasingly difficult to sustain.  As a commercially-licensed station that relied heavily on advertiser support, the station continued to play the latest CCM until 2017 when the university relinquished its broadcast license.

Today, it's not hard to find internet radio stations, satellite-based FM stations, or streaming playlists that feature the best new Christian music.  But for a generation of Christian listeners, the first two decades of CCM still form the soundtrack of a season of life marked by unforgettable memories and the goodness of God.  The tunes remain lyrically inspirational, musically innovative, and spiritually formative.

That's why Radio MC is purposefully designed to take you back -- to help you "come alive" again!

Coming Soon...

The next phase of Radio MC is a new low-power FM radio station located on the MC campus and serving the Clinton community.  Programming will include the same Radio MC musical favorites, Mississippi College and local high school athletics, and other community programs designed to inform and inspire.  The anticipated launch date of WZMC-LP 107.1 FM is June 1, 2026.

Why "Come Alive"?

In his Biblical letter, the apostle Paul reminded the church at Ephesus that "God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ -- by grace you have been saved -- and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus" (Eph. 2:4-7).

We're honored to reflect the spirit of the original "Come Alive 93.5."  Our hope for our listeners is that through the music you'll hear on Radio MC, you'll experience the love, grace, kindness, and mercy of God, and recapture a glimpse of the riches that await all who call Jesus Lord.
